About CRANET

CRANET (The Cranfield Network on International Human Resource Management) is an international research network that brings together universities and business schools from different countries around the world with the aim of studying human resource management (HRM) policies and practices.

The network was established in 1989 in response to the need for reliable and internationally comparable data on how organizations implement human resource management practices. From an initially European research initiative, CRANET has developed into a global network that today connects researchers from more than 40 countries around the world. It therefore represents one of the longest-standing and most significant international research networks in the field of human resource management.

CRANET’s key activity is the implementation of periodic international research studies that make it possible to examine the development of HRM practices across different national and institutional contexts. A particular value of the network lies in the application of a common research approach, which makes it possible to identify similarities and differences between countries and to monitor broader international trends in human resource management.

Until 2020, CRANET was coordinated by Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom, while in 2021 coordination of the network was transferred to the Center for International Human Resource Studies (CIHRS) at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), USA.
