My name is Željko Babić, and I am a fourth-year Business Informatics student at the Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka. I completed my Erasmus+ exchange during the summer semester at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. This was my second Erasmus experience, and I wanted to take another opportunity to study abroad and broaden my horizons.
Before leaving, I expected the exchange to be challenging but also extremely rewarding. Above all, I wanted to expand my knowledge, build lasting friendships and gain a deeper understanding of Czech culture. Classes at Mendel University were very well organised, with clear instructions, readily available online materials and a fair and supportive attitude from professors. During my stay in the Czech Republic, I noticed that people may appear somewhat reserved at first, but they are very considerate and willing to help when approached. Adapting to the local environment was not difficult, as Brno is one of those cities where it is easy to meet new people and find activities suited to a wide range of interests.
The Erasmus experience contributed greatly to my personal development. I became more independent, more confident in communicating in a foreign language and more open to unfamiliar situations. I learned to adapt more quickly, manage my time more effectively and better appreciate different cultures, customs and ways of thinking.
I would advise future Erasmus students to apply without too much hesitation and to make the most of every opportunity the exchange offers. It is important to remain open to new friendships, travel, academic responsibilities and extracurricular activities. Overall, I will remember this exchange as one of the most rewarding and enjoyable periods of my studies.
