From the academic year 2017/2018 the Curriculum of the first cycle of studies of the study program Economics and Business Management includes a professional practice. Students will attend the professional practice in an enterprise or other institution on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the Faculty of Economics through the Office of Professional Practice and companies or institutions, ie the organizers of professional practice. Professional practice will last 13 working days per semester (13 weeks out of a total of 15 weeks; two weeks are devoted to written colloquia, ie a total of 26 working days during the academic year). In the professional practice, a student will have a mentor from the institution where the professional practice is conducted, and the mentor will keep a diary. Professional practice will hold 2 ECTS credits per semester. For the purpose of monitoring the student practice, each student has a teacher-mentor who reviews the diary of practice and makes a decision on whether the practice has been successfully completed or not.

The agreement on practice is signed between the Faculty of Economics the University of Banja Luka, student and employer, where the learning outcomes that are to be achieved are specified. There should be clear procedures for evaluating learning outcomes and awarding ECTS credits, which will be included in the final paper of students. The roles of the signatories in the process of specifying, achieving and evaluating learning outcomes must be clear. It is an opportunity for learning in working conditions and strengthening professional competences (professional development). The actual tasks performed at the workplace should be complementary to the content studied in the study program. The purpose of the professional practice is:
- learning about specific models and techniques of work,
- improvement of working skills required at the workplace,
- development of new skills that facilitate employment such as team work, technology use and problem solving,
- the opportunity to acquire skills gradually, from simple to complex,
- assessment in real conditions,
- forming an opinion on the relevance of the content of the program for the workplace,
- providing a documentary basis for the final paper.

After completing the practice, the student prepares a report on the practice, and the knowledge acquired during the practice, as a rule, but not binding, is described in the empirical research part of the final paper. ECTS credits are awarded after appropriate check and assessment and achieved outcomes by the teacher-mentor

Practice to success - Experience in companies Žitopeka kifla & caffe and Sector Security

Young people in companies with tradition are one of the goals of a group consisting of companies Žitopeka kifla & caffe and Sector Security, Žitoprodukt and several other companies. Led by that, at the end of 2018 a competition for internships was announced. Four young trainees, undergraduate students of the fourth year of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Banja Luka, were given the opportunity to participate in the implementation of a large number of projects in the companies Sector Security and Žitopeka kifla & caffe through educational programs and application of theoretical and professional knowledge from the Faculty of Economics.
Professional practice at Žitopeka kifla & cafe and Sector Security companies resulted in the employment of two practitioners. Nataša Benić received an offer in accounting of the company Sector Security in the position of associate for the calculation of salaries and other personal incomes, while Đorđe Mrđa was given the opportunity to be a part of the marketing team of Žitopeka kifla & cafe in the position of marketing assistant, and soon in the position of manager of the marketing sector itself.

"The application of learned theoretical knowledge in practice, in the performance of specific tasks and assignments complemented my knowledge and skills, and thus confirmed in what direction my interests went when it came to my profession. Practicing in a dynamic environment, as well as constant education by experts in this field, allowed me to understand very quickly and easily how marketing works. All my invested efforts and work was quickly recognized by my employer, who hired me as a marketing assistant, and soon afterward I was promoted to the position of the marketing manager. The fast advancement and confidence that I have received, clearly tells me how much Žitopeka kifla & caffe as an employer invests in young people and therefore shows that anything is possible if we are willing to work and learn,” said Đorđe.

“The practical experience in the companies Sector Security and Žitopeka kifla & cafe has given my theoretical knowledge greater significance and new guidance. The mentors I have had the opportunity to work with have selflessly transferred their knowledge and experience to me, giving me, even more, will to learn and move forward. My efforts were recognized, and I was soon offered a job at Sector Security, where I have been working for some time and it is a great pleasure to be a part of this successful company,” said Nataša.
